Infoblox Inc. has been chosen by Independence Blue Cross  to provide it with domain name systems (DNS), IP address management (IPAM), and IP address assignment (DHCP)services.  With 2.4 million local members and 3.3 million nationwide members Independence Blue Cross is Philadelphia’s largest healthcare insurance provider.

Darin Freeman, Manager of Distributed Systems at Independence Blue Cross said they selected Infoblox because of its advanced technology and design, easy to integrate systems and due to its clear and concise upgrading instructions.  These characteristics are what primarily drove Independence Blue Cross to choose to work with Infoblox and working closely with Infoblox only made their decision easier because they saw the level of expertise all its workers had.

Independence Blue Cross chose and purchased eight Infoblox-1050 appliances as well as Infoblox’s unique Grid(TM) technology that comes with the network services suite.  These were chosen for DNS, DHCP, TFTP and IPAM.

The eight units have been installed in different locations by Independence Blue Cross:  Four units have been places at its main datacenter in Harrisburg, PA, two units at their downtown facilities and two units at their disaster recovery site.

Freeman is very happy with the migration and announced that many labour costs have been saved because of the efficiency of installation as well as the lack of failures to happen at the last minute. Tape backups of the DNS database are no longer necessary he said because of the improved disaster recovery aspect of the new installations.  Independence Blue Cross is now better prepared to deal with its new IP phones and foresees general improvements with DNSSEC.
